Born in Caratinga, Minas Gerais (Brazil), he studied composition with Willy Corrêa de Oliveira since the time he graduated in classical guitar with Edelton Gloeden at the University of São Paulo (ECA/USP).
He has won and been awarded in important composition competitions in Brazil. Additionally, he has received three of the most significant "Commission Prizes" in his country (Funarte - 2014 and 2008, Vitae Foundation - 2003, and RioArte 2001), as well as receiving important recognitions in the field of music for Theater and Cinema.
He has an extensive orchestral output (19 works written), and several orchestras have performed his compositions: OSESP (São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra), OSN (National Symphony Orchestra), OFMG (Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra), OSUSP (São Paulo University Symphony Orchestra), OSRT (Culture Radio and TV Orchestra, São Paulo), OSUFRJ (Rio de Janeiro Federal University Symphony Orchestra), OSU (Unicamp Symphony Orchestra), and OSES (Espírito Santo State Symphony Orchestra), conducted by Joana Carneiro (Portugal), Luthero Rodrigues, Marcos Arakaki, Carlos Moreno, Luthero Rodrigues, Ernani Aguiar, Ricardo Bologna, and Gabriel Rhein-Schirato, respectively.
He has made transcriptions for the São Paulo State Wind Symphony and the Tatuí Wind Orchestra under the direction of Aylton Escobar and Dario Sotelo, respectively.
His compositions have been performed by important Brazilian and international artists in recitals and festivals in Brazil, Turkey, Colombia, the United States, France, Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, England, Greece, Mexico, and Italy.
In January 2010, he gave masterclasses on rhythm at the G.B. Martini Conservatory (Bologna) and G. Rossini Conservatory (Pesaro) in Italy.
He regularly participates as a composer in the Brazilian Biennale of Contemporary Music (Rio de Janeiro and Mato Grosso), Strange Music - Exploratory Music International Festival, Babel Festival (Porto Alegre), Brazil (Three centuries of music) UK, New Music Festival (Brazil), Expo Milano 2015 (Italy), Music of the Americas, Camerata Aberta: New Music from Brazil – New York, 45FIMNME (Mexico). As a teacher and lecturer, he has participated in festivals such as the Ourinhos Festival (SP), Vital Medeiros Festival (SP), Winter Festival of Prados (MG), Fare Musica con La Chitarra, Oggi - IV week of Guitar at the G.B. Martini Conservatory (Bologna), among many others.
In 2014, he wrote two works for the CD "3 + 2 / SP" produced by the Epifania Piano Trio: Gli Occhi Di Trepidano Ilusioni (Trio) and Espectros pelo Jardim de Concreto (Duo).
In September 2014, the world premiere of Signo Sopro V for amplified guitar and orchestra was performed by renowned guitarist Gilson Antunes and the Unicamp Symphony Orchestra (OSU), conducted by maestro Ricardo Bologna.
Various of his chamber, orchestral, and solo instrument works have been recorded on CDs (Selo SESC, Paulus, Agua-Forte, etc.), highlighting the CD “Marcus Siqueira por Gilson Antunes” focused on works for solo guitar and "Contraluz" (for chamber music). Many of his compositions have been published by Universal Edition (Vienna, Austria), WIPEdizioni (Bari, Italy), OSESP Editora (São Paulo, Brazil), Da Vinci (Osaka, Japan), and Editora Urbana (São Paulo, Brazil).
In 2013, two CDs were released for the SESC label: "Contraluz" – focusing on his chamber music production – and "Ligeti+" with the work Kronos and Kairòs, a portrait for Nancarrow & Ligeti, recorded by Percorso Ensemble.
In 2013, he developed, by invitation of the PANanroma Studio, a work for solo violin and real-time electronics under the guidance of Flo Menezes.
In December 2014, the contemporary music ensemble “Camerata Aberta” performed his Duo Espectros no Jardim de Concreto at the American Society in New York.
He coordinated the Workshop for Musical Creation for Cinema for the CINE(POE)MA project organized by Oficinas Culturais do Estado de São Paulo, managed by POIESIS – Social Organization of Culture.
As an educator, he worked for 12 years as a music teacher at the primary and secondary schools “Colégio Santa Cruz” and “Colégio Oswald de Andrade” in São Paulo (Brazil), where he developed a method for a didactic approach to musical creation for children and youth.
Since 2015, he has been a consultant and coordinator responsible for overseeing the entire music curriculum, from early childhood education to secondary courses at Colégio Oswald de Andrade. He taught Music Pedagogy online in the Bachelor of Music course at the Cantareira Faculty in Brazil from 2014 to 2018.
He has taught advanced rhythmic courses at conservatories: Conservatorio Bruno Maderna in Cesena, Conservatorio di Musica G. B. Martini in Bologna, and Conservatorio Boito in Parma, a special course on Advanced Rhythm, with a particular focus on Brazilian music traditions.
He taught "Advanced Rhythm of Brazilian Music" for 5 years at the G. B. Martini Conservatory in Bologna and currently teaches classical guitar at the Gioachino Rossini Music School in Cervia and at the Angelo Masinia Music Institute in Forlì.
